P.Y.G.M.A: Raising Communication Standards in the Democratic Republic of Congo
P.Y.G.M.A are the initials of five friends who decided to bring the expertise they acquired in South Africa to the rest of Africa.
They identified the opportunities offered by the Democratic Republic of Congo and took on the challenge of transforming the communication sector by raising it to a new level. Their promise was simple yet powerful: deliver services that exceed the current market standards. To fulfill this promise, they knew they needed quality people.
Aware of the country’s challenges and the shortage of skilled professionals to provide top-tier services, the company did not hesitate to bring expatriates into key positions with a clear mission: to train and transfer knowledge to local teams.
Starting in 2004 as an advertising company, P.Y.G.M.A grew organically over time to meet the evolving needs of the Congolese market. From creative work, production, and public relations to digital communication, P.Y.G.M.A now offers comprehensive 360° services, covering the entire spectrum of client needs.
Today, the agency counts some of the country’s biggest clients, such as Vodacom, the leading telecom company. The company also produces reality TV shows and organizes major music events, working with both local and international artists like Stromae.
We had the pleasure of meeting Alain Yav, the current CEO of the group, in Kinshasa. He shared insights about his journey, the founding of P.Y.G.M.A, the opportunities the DRC offers to aspiring entrepreneurs, as well as the many challenges to overcome.
An inspiring portrait that we are proud to share with you.
