The desertification of Bamako, the loss of mangroves in Douala, and wetlands being swallowed up by urbanization in Cotonou: how can nature and biodiversity be brought back to African cities? Living sustainably and smartly in urban spaces is a future challenge to tackle climate change. We discuss this with Arlande Joerger, founder and CEO of the startup EwoSmart, which develops reforestation programs and creates “cool islands” in cities, notably using artificial intelligence and satellite imagery.
